Yoga Therapy Classes & Barre Pilates Classes from 1st March

Yoga Therapy and Barre Pilates classes in Deal will start 1st March 2018 at St Andrew’s and St George’s Halls.

Barre Pilates:

Thursdays 9.15am to 10.15am – St Andrew’s Hall

Thursdays 6.30pm to 7.15pm –  St George’s Hall

Yoga Therapy:

Thursdays 7.30pm to 8.30pm  – St George’s Hall

Saturdays 8.30am to 9.30am –  St Andrew’s Hall

Introductory Prices: £5 for 45 minutes; £7 for 60 minutes; £10 for both classes on Thursday evening.  Private sessions available at £50 per session for one; £60 per session for 2.

What to bring: A mat and some water.  For Yoga Therapy, as well as a mat, blocks/bricks, straps and a blanket are useful.

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga, as a practice, is therapeutic.  The main difference between a yoga class and a yoga therapy class is in the approach.  Yoga therapy is a process of empowering people towards improved health and wellbeing through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga.  It aims to prevent, eliminate, reduce, or at least manage health issues and improve function. A yoga class generally uses a series of asanas (postures) with a physical benefit in mind, for example, opening the hips or lengthening the hamstrings.  A yoga therapy class takes a specific health angle, eg, improve digestion or the immune system and builds a class around that.  A typical class would include postures to remove energy blockages (Shakti bandha), asanas (hatha & yin) and pranayama (breathing techniques) to work on the health focus of each class and would finish with yoga nidra/relaxation/meditation.  Suitable for everyone.

What is Barre Pilates?

Probably one of the most effective workouts you will find, using a combination of Ballet Barre and Pilates exercises.  Because the class is dictated by the beat of the music and many of the hip/thigh exercises are performed standing, your heart rate will rise, improving your cardiovascular system and raising your metabolic rate.  It is high intensity to deliver results, but low impact, so suitable for all age groups.  The small, controlled movements reduce pressure on your joints, tendons, ligaments and spine, making it a very safe form of exercise.  Benefits include strength and definition, better posture and improved body composition.  Absolutely no dance experience required or any great levels of flexibility.  Example Thigh set.
